Board-Certified Ophthalmologist And Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon
Dr. Waqas Ilyas is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreo-retinal surgeon, who serves as the owner of Retina and Vitreous Consultants of Virginia, P.C. He also is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he imparts his extensive knowledge of retinal care to young eye physicians.
Dr. Ilyas graduated with his M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year.
Professional Experience And Associations
He went on to serve for two years as faculty in the Department of Ophthalmology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where he taught residents in ophthalmology and surgery of the anterior segment. To further advance his training, he then completed a two year fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He moved back to the Virginia area after his fellowship and established a retina practice in Winchester to serve the local and surrounding communities.
Dr. Ilyas was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He has lived in Virginia for the past 10 years with only a brief hiatus for his fellowship. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two lovely children. When he is not practicing medicine or at a national retina meeting, he enjoys hobbies such as: playing squash, jogging, and traveling.
